GRIEF RECOVERY
By Reydon Stanford
There are few experiences in life that are as mentally and emotionally
painful as being forced to move through the grieving process following a significant loss.
Sadly, if a person lives long enough, they will experience a significant loss, or even many within
their lifetime. When we do experience a significant loss, such as the death of a loved-one, a career, our health, a marriage,
a family pet, etc., our brain is overcome with such heavy and painful thoughts that it can completely overwhelm us.
Although most people like to think they are mentally and
emotionally strong, even the strongest people have been known to crumble emotionally when confronted with a significant loss.
King David is a good example of this. Although he boldly faced and conquered a giant in his teens...he fell apart emotionally
upon the deaths of his beloved friend Jonathan and even more so upon the death of his son Absalom. In those times, this man's
great courage failed him.
It actually seems that
humanity is ill-equipped to handle loss on a large scale.
